Sarah's Key

So I just finished the best book I've read this year! This is one of those books that you can read in two days because you don't want to put it down. Also one of those books that when you read it outside you suddenly look up and wonder why it got dark out so fast and then realize that 3 hours have gone by and it's 9 pm and you're still sitting outside in the lawn chair.

Anyway.

Sarah's Key is about two stories set in France, one in 1942 and one in 2002 that intertwine and overlap in unexpected ways. A little Jewish girl in 1942 is rounded up by French policemen with her family and is subjected to horrific events that lead to tragedy. An American journalist, living in Paris in 2002 is assigned a story about the round up, which causes her to discover things she never would have expected to find out, about Paris - the city she loves, as well as her extended family. The journalist is driven to delve deeper and deeper into the mystery of what happened to the little girl, and in doing so finds more out about herself as well.

While the ending is slightly predictable, it didn't ruin the story in the slightest. I got to the last word and actually said "NO!" out loud in the back yard because I wanted to keep reading.

My rating: 4.8/5 stars (due to the predictability).
