Hate vs. Love

The members of Westboro Baptist "Church" were in town today protesting at a high school and college. I'm not really sure why they were here, there may have been a recent funeral for a fallen soldier. If you don't know much about these people, here is a little background:
  • They are from Kansas, near Topeka.
  • The followers are made up of primarily one man's family.
  • Other Baptists want nothing to do with them.
  • They like to protest at soldier's funerals because they feel like God is punishing America for being tolerant of homosexuality.
  • They love attention.
I had to drive by the area where they were scheduled to protest today. Instead of the Westboro people all I saw were high school kids standing out in the cold with signs about love and acceptance to counter-protest. This reminded me that while there may be individuals out there who are desperate to spread hate, there are 10 times more individuals who are willing to step up and do the opposite.

  1. I remember when they came to Bismarck after two young soldiers were killed in Iraq. Seeing them with their disgusting signs at the funeral of soldier killed in action will burn in the back of my brain. However, the Freedom Riders were also there.

  3. I'd really like to start a fight with one, but that's what they want. I've heard that by people assaulting them and suing the person for it is how they get most of their money. Jerk-offs. I'm glad there are other protesters to counter them so they know people don't agree with them.
