Immigration Update

Things with Paul's visa have been slow. Not just snail mail slow. I mean molasses in January slow. Or almost-no-communication-whatsoever slow. However, in recent days there has been some updates.

Immigration likes the "You pay first then we give you information" sequence of events, so a couple of weeks ago after paying $70 I was given access to instructions on filling out an Affidavit of Support form. This form basically tells the immigration officials that I am able to support Paul so he doesn't need to apply for and use Medicaid, Food Stamps, Welfare, or all those other fun government programs. I need to make 125% of the poverty guideline and prove this. Being a student the last 380 years, I haven't been even close to reaching that mark in the past. Luckily, with the awesome degree and job I have now, I am WAY above. Hopefully making a difference of $60,000 between 2009 and 2010 will leave them confident that I'm a-ok in the financial department.

Next, they requested we pay a $404 payment to find out the next step of the process, which turns out to be the big step. I'm happy that at least by paying an extravagant fee we are able to get some shiz done. Paul has to do the work this time and request his police records and get original documents of his birth certificate and a bunch of other things. He will have to have a physical by a specific practice of physicians in London and the last step will be participating in an interview with a scary (just kidding, Paul) immigration agent.

So there you have it. The Affidavit of Support documents have been sent off, now we just have to send in one more packet of documents before the physical and interview. After that it usually doesn't take too long to get a visa/green card.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED, PEOPLE!

  2. How insane this is taking so long! You would think they would TRY to make it easier for people who are trying to do the right thing and jump through all of their hoops.
